My Thief

My first character was a thief, I started out on Atlantic in. My characters stats where 20 STR, 15 INT, and all the rest to DEX. Wow was that a mistake. My skills where 50 lock picking, 25 steeling, and 25 snooping. Thinking how great this would be to make a character who could steal everything was my biggest downfall. You see I had never played UO before and didn't know how HARD it is to raise your skills. So I started off my by walking around to the local inn and shops, double clicked on the book shelf and WOW! some books. I knew there was big money to be made from steeling books; after all I mean, I could sell them for like 6 gold. So I sucessfully stold about 4 books, I went to the provisioners and to my serprise he bought all of them. So my gold total was upto 124 gold. I hurried to the weaponsmith and bought myself a sword. Oh man now I was ready to kill some newbies, (Thinking That My Char Was Good Now) so I saw a newbie, all he had was a shield no weapon so I went close to him and snooped into his stuff. I found 100 gold, thinking that I would be rich now if I got his money I went into war mode and attacked him (BAD MOVE). Guards came and killed me in less then a second. I was very angery so I hurried and ressed with penalties to get all my stuff. After dying I was scared to attack someone again, so I went back to steeling. I saw my next victim, a player with full plate. I snooped his inventory only to find it full of magic wands, bows, maps, and GOLD. I knew I would get rich, so I tryed to steel one of the rods. After I failed to do so, all I saw was GUARDS and then bang again I'm dead. I hurried to res with penalties only to find that the player looted my corpse. I know knew how bad steeling from players was, so I left protection of Lord British Guards. I was now wandering away from civilization. I saw a house, I opened it up and I started to steel the chairs. Trying to steel other things, I got a message telling me that I was carring 8 Stones to much weight. After about 10 minuits I finally found out that it ment I was to heavy and coudn't move. So I droped to less valuable stuff. Taking the two shields and the chain turnic. While walking back to town I decided to try and kill a passing dog I saw, so I equipped my new shield and tried to equip the turnic but I got a message saying you can't wear that. I started to punch the dog. At this time I had no clue of how to determind your hitpoints and AR class yet so I blindly fought the dog. After about one minuit I got killed, again I hurried and ressed with penalties. I got all my stuff and went back to town and sold everything I had except my shield. Now I had about two hundred and fourty gold coins so I decided to go and buy some armour/weaponds. On the way to the weapon shop I finally saw another PC. I stopped him and asked him a question. (How do I look at my skills, STR, Hitpoints, etc...) Finally finding out how to look at my stuff I looked at my stats and saw that my lockpicking was down to 41, snooping at 21, and stealing at 18. I had no idea on what was going on, but because of me ressing with penalties I lost a percentage of my attributes. I hurried and bought some leather armour, and another sword. Now I continuied to thieve. I went into the inn and double clicked on a book shelf, when I saw more books I decided to try and steal them. I was then again killed by the guards cause I tried to steal and failed cause my skill was too low, and now everyone was trying to kill me cause I was dishonerable. The game was really starting to suck now, cause since no one was their to help me, I had no clue on how to do anyting at all in the game. (This Character Was Deleted 5 Days Later).

My Animal Taimer

After deciding that thieving wasn't a good profession to start off with I decided to make an animal taimer so that I could sell live stock. So I created a character, 50 Animal Taiming, 30 Herding, 20 Tracking. Still once again I had no clue on what I was doing. I went around asking people what I could do, how I can get my skills up, and how I used them. Two hours later I found someone who stopped to help me out. After finding out how to use my animal taiming I decided to go venturing out into the open forest, thinking I could taim anything with 50 skill. I approched a place as we all know as 'the crossroads', and to my surprise some people wanted to help me out. Not knowing what Dread Lord or Red/Grey characters where I trusted them. When I met my first monster I tried to taim it. The Dreads told me they would protect me and not to worry. To I approched this weird looking thing (Lizard Man) and attempted to taim him, when I got a message telling me that I can't taim that. Trying to run away from the monster because it had not started to attack me, I starting to yell for help and a heal. The Dreads started to speak in a strange language (Casting Spells). When all of a sudden I saw the blue bar jumped up, now I thought that they where gonna help me out so I continued to attack the monster. The Dreads spoke again in a weird language again, and then I could not move (Later to find out that they cast weaken, curse, poison, and paralize on me). Of course I died to I had to res with penalties so I could take my stuff from my corpse. All of a sudden the Dreads started to laugh. They now killed the monster and after I was safe from the Lizard Men, I asked them what was so funny. They killed me and I resed with penalties. When they started to laugh again, I now was very angry and told them that I wanted to know what was so funny. This is when they explained to me not to res with penalties because when you do you lose your skill. Now knew a little bit more about how skills worked so I decided to go back to town and get some more help with the game from some experts (People Who Would Talk To Me). After getting into town someone told me that I shoudn't be in Britan if I wanted to taim animals so they made a gate for me to another town. Before I went though the moongate he told me that I should only go after taiming animals, and not monsters. I had never even seen a moongate befor, so I really didn't want to go through it, but I did. This is where my character started to at least get a bit better. I walked into the forest and saw a cat. I taimed it and named it and moved on, by the time I was done I had 3 cats, 1 dog, 2 hinds, 1 cow, and 4 pigs. I now started to go back to town to sell some of my fine livestock. When I got back to town I started to say live stock for sale. Best Offer! No one wanted them, but there was one guy who offered me 50 gold if he could kill my two hinds. So I said shur. After he killed my hinds he paied me the 50 gold and left. This was a very boring and slow process of making money since it took me about one hour to get the two hinds, and I could only sell them for around 10 to 20 gold a peice. My skill was now at 53.7, thinking how great this is that my skill raised 3.7 points; I decided to go brag about it. Then some guys told me that I should go taim a dragon, and that I only needed to have 40 skill to do so, and that when I returned with it they would share their house with me and buy it off me for 10K. I told them I would do it right away if they would be so kindly tell me where I could find one. They moongated me to a a place and I started to walk around. I went down the screen a bit to find a bunch of chest on the ground. I opened all of them and I found alot of gold, then all of a sudden 5 orcs respawned in front of me killing me instantaniously. I was not very impressed and wanted to kill the two people who gated me here but knowing that I would protably never find a town again I gave up. (This Character Was Deleted 5 Days Later).

My Lumberjack

Knowing this time that I needed a way to get some cash, I decided to start with some skills that I could use to my advantage to allow me access to some easy cash. I picked carpentry 50, lumberjacking 25, and magic 25. Now I thought I would be able to kick some ass cause I could easily go chop some wood, make something and sell it. I thought that with in a week I could be on my way to a tent, or even a house. Like allways I started in Britan thinking that since there is more people there, there will be more people to help me out. So I entered the wonderful world of Britania. The first person that I met was more than willing to show me the tricks of the trade and had told me that if I chopped wood then I would not have to buy it. So I now knew how to make things to sell. I decided to go into the woods and chop some wood like the person told me to do. After filling my inventory with wood, I went back into town and found the local capenters shop. When I entered this place I was greeted by a fellow newbie like me. He kept asking me how to do things and I told him that I didn't know cause I was also a newbie. The only difference between us was that he didn't have lumberjacking. I started to make some boxes to sell and that is when he made a box, and placed it in front of me. I clicked on the box once to check if it was empty and to my surprise I was full! I hurried up and picked up the box, opened it and BOOM the damn thing took half my hitpoints off. Not knowing it was a bomb I told the guy that he should beware of his boxes, cause they will explode. He laughed at me and walked away. Now I was in the carpenters shop all alone, I started to make some boxes and sold them to the NPC. This was great because I was making 500 gold an hour. I finally got 1K an now I decided to buy some armour/weapons. Now I was wearing full chain mail, with a shield. Now I could at least go out and adventure while chopping some wood. This time I went out a little further than normal and returned after with a full inventory of wood. I again went into the carpenters shop and made some some boxes to sell. This time I made about 700 gold, so I decided to spend it on healing potions incase I ran into some monsters. Now I thought I was good cause I was wearing full chain, still not knowing that there where combat skills. I started to harvest more wood when I saw a (red) player, he wasn't wearing any amour and had attacked me, I attacked back when all of a sudden a lightning bolt came from the sky and killed me. This time I resed with penalties cause I didn't want to loose all my stuff, and then ZZZ again another bolt, and I repeated this process until I coudn't res no more. Now I knew my character was messed cause I lost all my skills. I still gave my character another shot, I spend another 30 minuits filling my inventory with wood, and made some more boxes to sell another 30 minuits cause I kept failing. I finally got some money to buy some stuff and I was to afread to attack anyone cause now I knew my character still sucked lots. I spent another week on this character not knowing what to do, and still no one was willing to help me out. I finally got so pissed off cause this character sucked that or I sucked anyway and I spent 1 week on him only to have to delete him.

My Tinkerer (The Guy I Use Now)

Well I decided to make myself a new, dependable character. This time I chose skills that I knew would get me money for shur, 50 tinkering, 25 tailoring, 25 alchemy. Unlike the first time I took this character and brang him to the training dummies. I got all my combat skills upto 25 each, this increased my STR to 59, so I then decided to go chop some wood until I got my STR to 60, now I could wear full plate. I tailored and made shirts untill I got around 1K, then I went to the bank, withdrew all of it and bought myself fullplate. I now went outside the zoo and killed hinds. This was great cause now I could get my weapon skill up, and for every hind I killed I could now tailor myself A female armour and sell it for 87 gold. Untill I got my weapon skill to above 60 I wasn't going to try and kill any monsters, or even attemp to go into any dungeons untill my skills where at least 70. My AR was now 31, and I didn't know magic, I knew that I needed to know some magic or the game would be too hard to play. I decided to start magic but I told myself that I wasn't going to untill I could buy my magic upto 25, get at least 1 though 6 circle spells, and 100 of each reagents. I now had about 12K, it took me about 2 weeks to tailor that much but it was worth it. I now went and bought a spellbook, and payed someone to inscribe me 1 though 6 circle spells. I bought 100 of each reagent, and trained myself to 25 skill in magic. I was now downto about 9K. So I decided to buy myself full magical plate. I was now down to 2K. Now I thought I was good enouff to fight some monsters. Unfortunatly I allmost died while fighting a lizard men. I decided to practice my magery untill I could recall, so incase I got in trouble I could recall out of there. Then I was convinced from my good friend Nick to start to take up archery. So I again I took 1K out of the bank. Bought myself a bow, trained myself upto 25 archery in Britan, and then the best thing happened, I was hunting outside the zoo when I almost died, I ran into the zoo and called guards. After the guards killed the Ogre that was following me, I saw a person shooting at the animals in the zoo. I called guards and nothing happened. (Could this be true? You can kill at the zoo?) After spending about 150 arrows trying to kill and Eaton behind the gate, I looked at my archery skill and it went upto 38. I thought that this was so cool, cause I could get noto, get my skill up, and if I killed a hind I could still skin it and get the fur. So after getting my archery upto 58.3 I decided it was time for me to now go and take a walk into the forest and kill any thing I saw. So I went walking and the killing started off a little slow but then picked up when I got gated to an island, and till today I never been back there ever. I was now half decient and decided to take advantage of my tinkering, I would go and kill a bear, place the fur into a box, and then with my tinkering skill I would trap the box. Causing extream pain to any character who opened it, usually death. After these people would die I would take there stuff and sell it. I was making around 8K evey 40 minuits on good days, but averaged I was making 4K evey hour. How I now had about 22K in the bank and of course I spent it foolishly experamenting, because I still didn't know the game that well. I bought 20 greater heal potions, 10 greater explosion, and 4 deadly poison. The potions where looted from me when I was killed by attacking an evil NPC too close to town :( ! I was now down to about 17K in the bank, I decided that I should buy and extra set of plate, and so on. In case I died. I also went alittle crazy and bought a magic bow, mace, and more reagents. I was now down back to 4K. The next day I start up UO and there it is, the next UO patch. Thinking that it might make the game a little better, with the new rating system. I joined my friends guild, and me and him went into the dungeon Deciet, cause it's very easy. Except for the one little proplem, the bug no one told me about, It seems that you coudn't take your guildmembers stuff from his dead body. Even though he is in your guild it is still considered LOOTING! Which sucks cause now eveyone get the right to attack and kill me, and I bet you'll never believe what happened. Six guys attacked me and just as after I greater healed myself, and was just about to recall. The black screen apeared, I was dead. I have spent too much time on this guy to delete him, so I will just goto the bank and withdraw some cash, armour, reagents, and kill the SOB who killed me.
